Volunteer Opportunities

We offer several volunteer roles to match different skills, schedules, and interests. All roles require a commitment to confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and a genuine desire to support children and families impacted by abuse.

Child Advocate

Support children, youth, and families referred to the CYAC with information, resources, and emotional support throughout the process.

Support outcome measurement and reporting by inputting and auditing data to maintain database integrity.

Support CYAC community events and fundraising activities — ideal for those who can't make a long-term weekly commitment.

Greet families as they arrive, maintain a warm and tidy atmosphere, and support CYAC staff with day-to-day centre operations.

How to Apply

  1. Submit your resume and a cover letter to the CYAC volunteer coordinator.
  2. Participate in a telephone screening with the volunteer coordinator.
  3. Complete an interview with a panel.
  4. Provide two references who can speak to your suitability for the role.
  5. Pass a police vulnerable sector and records check.
  6. Attend volunteer orientation and training sessions.
  7. Begin your one-year commitment and start making a difference.
Recruitment Cycle Volunteer intakes are conducted twice yearly — in the fall and spring. If your application is received after the cut-off for the current intake, it will be kept on file for the next program cycle.

Applicants Must

  • Reside in Durham Region
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Submit a resume and cover letter
  • Provide two references
  • Pass a police vulnerable sector and records check
  • Participate in all required training sessions
  • Agree to a one-year commitment to volunteering
